In order to obtain information to serve as a basis for the elaboration of health promotion programmes for nursing staff, this descriptive correlational research was carried out in the Belén, Regional and Víctor Lazarte hospitals in Trujillo during June-December 2002. This descriptive correlational research was carried out in the Belén, Regional and Víctor Lazarte hospitals in Trujillo, during the months of June-December 2002. The sample consisted of 56 nurses from the aforementioned hospitals. To assess the level of Burnout Syndrome, the Malash Burnout Inventory (MBI) (1986) was used, which assesses three fundamental aspects of burnout syndrome: emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation and lack of personal achievement. The results are presented in single and double classification statistical tables; and the test of independence of criteria (X2) was used for the analysis.
