Abstract

School violence in Peru has been reduced to acts of physical confrontation that occurs between students, due to this misconception this representation has three distinct features: (a) violence is physical, (b) protagonists are male and (c) the actors of violence are young, but not children. These criteria do not correspond to reality and have distorted the identification of other forms of school violence that are hidden, such as bullying, whose occurrence is the number one problem in the school system around the world. In this article we will examine in greater detail the harassment at school (bullying), its main characteristics and the various ways in which it occurs. We will review the main effects attained by persons involved directly and indirectly and conclude with the reference of some of the most successful anti-bullying strategies.
