Abstract

The present investigation applied the initial steps of the tool TMP (Total productive maintenance) in fishmeal area of an industrial company. To determine the problems caused by maintenance, 25 productive days were analyzed. Initially, it was detected that the company had a poor maintenance system where the program was not met and there were different downtimes due to the lack of organization inthe work environment. It was determined that the antioxidant tolvin had the highest frequency of failures; however, its maintainability was the lowest of all, since repairs are made easily. On the other hand, the dryer that has three times fewer failures than the antioxidant tolvin presented more complicated and more maintainable repairs. During the following 12 days of the application of TPM, in the case of the dryer, the maintainability was reduced by 6 min due to the transport savings due to the 5 s. Inthe case of productivity there was a 6% increase in productivity (15 to 17 bags per hour), due to the reduction of failures and dead times caused by them. Finally, the OEE increased by 0.68% with a hope of an increase of 16.32% over a period of one year, with this increase it can be shown that the TPM is functional and effective to improve the efficiency of the equipment.
