Personality characteristics and some socio-cultural and obstetric factors in pregnant women diagnosed and undiagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum

In order to determine the existence or not of significant differences in personality and some sociocultural and obstetric factors in pregnant women with and without a diagnosis of Hyperemesis Gravidarum, a descriptive comparative study was carried out with a sample of two groups: One group consisted of pregnant women hospitalised with a diagnosis of hyperemesis gravidarum in the Belén and Regional hospitals in the city of Trujillo, and the other group consisted of pregnant women without a diagnosis of hyperemesis gravidarum who were seen in the outpatient obstetrics clinic in the aforementioned hospitals. For data analysis, the Mann Whitney test and the Chi-square test were used. Significant differences were found in the following scales: avoidant, self-defeating, schizotypal, bordeline and paranoid. Likewise, pregnant women with Hyperemesis Gravidarum obtained clinical significance in the following scales: Avoidant, Narcissistic, Compulsive, Aggressive Sadistic, Passive Aggressive and Paranoid. Passive Aggressive and Paranoid. Statistical significance was also found for educational level (completed higher education), parity (1st and 2nd child) and pregnancy planning.
