Abstract

In order to determine the existence or not of significant differences in personality and some sociocultural and obstetric factors in pregnant women with and without a diagnosis of Hyperemesis Gravidarum, a descriptive comparative study was carried out with a sample of two groups: One group consisted of pregnant women hospitalised with a diagnosis of hyperemesis gravidarum in the Belén and Regional hospitals in the city of Trujillo, and the other group consisted of pregnant women without a diagnosis of hyperemesis gravidarum who were seen in the outpatient obstetrics clinic in the aforementioned hospitals. For data analysis, the Mann Whitney test and the Chi-square test were used. Significant differences were found in the following scales: avoidant, self-defeating, schizotypal, bordeline and paranoid. Likewise, pregnant women with Hyperemesis Gravidarum obtained clinical significance in the following scales: Avoidant, Narcissistic, Compulsive, Aggressive Sadistic, Passive Aggressive and Paranoid. Passive Aggressive and Paranoid. Statistical significance was also found for educational level (completed higher education), parity (1st and 2nd child) and pregnancy planning.
