Abstract

This research aimed to determine the psychometric properties of the Social Skills Scale. In a population of 1010 students from first to fifth grade from public and private High Schools in Cartavio City; it was worked with a sample of 377 students who were selected by probability sampling. The content validity was made by judges criteria technique in items 7, 12, 16, 17, 20 and 23 who concluded that the change in terms was appropriate. Construct validity was performed using confirmatory factor analysis technique achieving a proper fit and a high level of significance. Construct validity by item – test correlation was also determined achieving a high level of significance and validity indices obtained in most of the items between .324 and .523, however in 5 items insufficient levels were achieved; in addition item – factor correlation was made, reaching a very good level for each factor. In addition, reliability was found by the method of internal consistency through Cronbach Alpha coefficient reaching a reliability of .828 being an appropriate level. Finally, scales were constructed by gender significant differences in factors of: “Say no” and cutting interactions and initiating positive interactions with the opposite sex. It was concluded that the Social Skills Scale Gismero Elena (2010) is a tool that has validity, reliability and scales in the town of Cartavio.
