The general objective of the research work is to develop a simulation model of discrete events to reduce the waiting time in the external consultation area of the public hospital. The study was of the descriptive type and considered a sample of 229 patients of the total population formed by those insured by the Hospital. The instruments used were a matrix of problems, Pareto diagram, time recording and the use of the Promodel software. As a result, in the diagnosis it was obtained that the main problem was the high waiting time with 21.53%. On the other hand, the average waiting time in the queue of system 1, 2 and 3 was 24.43 minutes, 23.04 minutes and 29.22 minutes respectively. To validate the modeling of the systems, a Chi-square test was performed. In the application four scenarios were obtained. Through a cost analysis it was obtained that the optimal scenario for the 3 systems was the third with 3 servers. For the evaluation, it was indicated that the average waiting time in the queue was reduced by 99% in each of the modeled systems. It was concluded, through the application of the simulated model, the average waiting time in the queue was reduced from 24.43 to 0.022 minutes for system 1, from 23.04 to 0.1610 minutes for 2 and from 29.22 to 0.0374 minutes for 3.
