Neo-Kantianism in the philosophical thought of José del Perojo y Figueras in second half of the 19th century

The aim of this study was to analyze the particularities of the Neo-Kantian thought of José del Perojo y Figueras (1850-1908), distinguishing its hermeneutic-theoretical dimension from its regenerationist projection in Spanish politics and pedagogy. From a qualitative approach, a critical-interpretive analysis of his main works was carried out to reconstruct his system of thought. This analysis identified a dual aspect to his Neo-Kantianism: first, hermeneutic critique, which seeks to ground philosophy in science and psychology, rejecting post-Kantian speculative idealism; and second, a regenerationist project that applied Neo-Kantian principles to the modernization of Spain, its colonial policy, and a national pedagogy. It was concluded that José del Perojo articulated a unique Neo-Kantianism that served as a link between German critical theory and the socio-political problems of Restoration Spain. Although little studied, his work represents a remarkable case of reception and transformation of critical idealism in the Hispanic American context.
