Availability and price of essential generic drugs in pharmacies and drugstores private Trujillo's Historic Center

Abstract

This study was conducted to measure the availability and price of essential generic drugs in pharmacies and drugstores private Trujillo's Historic Center between March and July 2012, using a standard methodology developed by the World Health Organization. The design is a descriptive cross, using a structured questionnaire to obtain data and a list of twenty generic essential drugs list taken from the final model given by WHO. The survey was conducted in each of the private sector establishments contained in pharmacies and drugstores relationship private from the Historic Center of Trujillo given by the General Directorate of Medicines Supplies and Drugs, obtaining 61 surveys to produce valid results .They use the Excel Spreadsheet to process the information and preparation of graphs and tables, finding that the average availability of essential generic drugs in pharmacies and drugstores private sector of the Historic Center of Trujillo was 72%, with variations ranging from 39% (Gentamicin 80mg/2ml) to 93% (Amoxicillin 500 mg tablets and Paracetamol 500 mg tablets). While, we found a 74% average availability of essential generic drugs for establishments near the Belen Hospital of Trujillo, while, for no nearby pharmacies and drugstores, the average availability was 69%. Finally, the highest price was Gentamicin 80mg/2ml injection, which was found to be 11 times higher than the international reference price.
