This work was carried out to characterize the solid residues (RR, SS.) In the District of Chao, Viru Province, Region La Libertad, Peru. The study was conducted between March and April 2011, we worked with the methodology proposed by the Pan American Sanitary Engineering (C.E.P.I.S.). During 08 days in a row were collected all solid waste produced by households samples weights were determined solid waste each household, then there was a segregation of RR.SS. of each household by type of component. With the same samples were tested for production per capita, daily production, moisture content and density of RR.SS. We determined the per capita production of RR.SS. in 0511 Kg./ person/day, daily output district of 10.47 Ton/day, 232.61 kg/m3 density and moisture of 53.20%. The highest percentage of RR.SS. is composed of organic material with 70%, newsprint represents 4.79%, the cardboard represents 2.12% and 2.34% plastic bottles of RR.SS. the district.
