Abstract

This paper compares ego strength levels in resident and non-resident addicts of therapeutic communities and non consumers of psychoactive substances in Piura, based on relapse frequency, consumption and treatment time. The design of this paper is descriptive-comparative. A nonprobabilistic sample was applied to volunteers. The ego strength psychosocial inventory of Markstrom, Sabino, Turner and Berman adapted for this research and demographic data cards were used. It was found that there are significant differences among ego strength levels in the three samples studied and that the relapse frequency is related to those differences as opposed to the consumption and residence time which do not intervene
