Abstract

We present a brief review of the effects of altitude on neuropsychological functioning in childreen. The analysis of studies suggests the existence of a pattern of mild cognitive impairment associated with acute exposure to high altitudes over the sea level. We discuss the presence of certain cultural aspects that may affect neuropsychological functioning, acting as a buffer against the physical conditions that act as environmental stressors in the body. The literature suggests the existence of cognitive impairment associated with exposure to high altitudes. The studies are scarce in this area, however, the complexity and importance ofthe subjectsuggest the need forfuture research in this area.
