Solution-focused group therapy with people who have had a suicide attempt

Abstract

The present work consists in a group application of the principles and techniques of the Solutions Focused Therapy(De Shazer, 1994; O´Hanlon and Weiner-Davis, 1990), inspired by the work of Yvonne Dolan (Dolan, 1998). The used approach had as objective it first session to establish clear goals and objectives, them following sessions to identify exceptions and the two last sessions were used to work the relapses prevention . The sample was conformed by 3 patients who were taken care of in the Service of Emergency of the Regional Hospital of Trujillo during June of 2004 by Suicidal Intention. They took to 6 group sessions and a pursuit 6 months after finalized the therapy. The results of the therapy show significant improvements, valued at quantitative level (through the scale and questionnaires) and at qualitative level (improvements found in each session and maintained until the pursuit).
