Physical self-concept and subjective psychological well-being in university students of psychology from Trujillo

Abstract

This substantial study analyzed the relation between the physical self-concept and the subjective psychological wellness in university students of Psychology from Trujillo, La Libertad region. The population consisted of 2114 students. The sample was determined by simple and probabilistic sampling and it had 314 students of both genders, with ages between 17 and 26 years old, also they were coursing from second to eleventh cycle; it was used the Physical Self-concept Questionnaire by Goñi, Ruiz and Rodríguez (2006), which has six dimensions: Physical Ability, Physical Condition, Physical Attractiveness, Force, General Physical Self-concept and General Self-concept and the Psychological Wellness Scale by Sánchez-Cánovas (2007). The results showed that there was a direct and highly significant correlation (p<.01) and an average correlation between the dimensions of Physical Condition, Strength, Sports Ability, Physical Attractiveness, General Physical Self-concept and General Self-concept with the Subjective Psychological Well-being; and the higher percentage of the students that were members of the sample were in an average level, not only in Physical Self-concept and its dimensions, but also in Subjective Psychological Well-being.
