Impulsivity and factors of empathy and autonomy of resilience in adolescents confined in a youth diagnosis and rehabilitation center in Trujillo

Abstract

It was investigated relationship between impulsivity and empathy factors and autonomy of resilience, so we used the designs is descriptive correlational in a population of 158 juvenile offenders held in a Youth Center for Diagnostics and Rehabilitation, aged between 14-20 years investigated. The Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (BIS-11) was used in version 11 to impulsivity measures in three subscales: unplanned impulsivity, motor impulsivity and cognitive impulsivity. In addition he subscales resilience of empathy and autonomy of the Inventory of Personal Resilience Factors Salgado was given. The main results indicate a highly significant (p <.01), negative and intermediate correlation, the “General Impulsiveness” with the “Empathy”. There is a highly significant (p <.01), negative and intermediate correlation, the “Cognitive impulsivity,” “impulsivity Motor” and “Impulsiveness by lack of planning” with the “Empathy” factor of resilience. Furthermore, it was found that there is a highly significant (p <.01), negative and intermediate correlation, the “Impulsiveness” with “autonomy”. There is also a highly significant (p <.01), negative and intermediate correlation, the “Cognitive impulsivity,” “impulsivity Motor” and “Impulsiveness by lack of planning” with the “Autonomy” factor resilience. Based on these results we can design and implement programs of prevention and / or intervention.
