Abstract

The present work is a descriptive study, whose design was developed correlational-comparative. The overall objective is to determine the relationship between happiness, coping strategies and perception of public safety; also compare these variables between areas with high crime and low crime rate. We worked with a group of 378 people from areas of high and low crime rate in the city of Trujillo; also the test of happiness Alarcon (2009), the test Sandín coping strategies and adapted Chorot and perception test of public safety (PERSE) was built, all instruments show acceptable levels of validity and reliability. In relation to the findings, it was found that the PSE happiness correlates with the perception of public safety, the coping strategy focused on troubleshooting (FSP), seeking social support (BAS) and religion (RLG. There are also differences significant in the population of high and low crime rate in the questionnaires of perceived public safety, coping strategies and happiness.
