Abstract

The arterial hypertension is a worldwide's public health serious problem. The Objective of this research was to validate the questionnaire BIPQ, which evaluates the illness perception. A number of 184 patients suffering arterial hypertension were tested.The psychometric study showed that the IBPQ is an acceptable instrument in mexican population with a three-dimensional structure (1. Symptoms perception and illness representation; 2. Illness control, and 3. Illness Knowledge), a variance percentage explained satisfactory (61.46%), and an acceptable internal consistency (total á=0.67). In conclusion, BIPQ needs only few modificationsfor mexican population in orderto be an useful instrument in the clinical practice.
