The research suggests the creation of a National Registry of Sentenced Sex Offenders in Peru. Its purpose is to prevent these people from reoffending and to support one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 16), which seeks to promote peace, justice and the strengthening of institutions. The study aimed to analyze the rationale for including in legislation a public registry to identify sex offenders. This would help increase citizen security and restore confidence in the judicial system. A basic methodology with a qualitative approach and a hermeneutic phenomenological design was used, conducting semi-structured interviews with judges, prosecutors, academics and lawyers specialized in criminal law and human rights. The results showed a general agreement on the need for a controlled registry of sexual offenders. However, different opinions also emerged on the effectiveness of such a registry and the possible risks of stigmatization. The study concludes that the creation of a National Sex Offender Registry in Peru could help reduce recidivism and improve public safety. However, it is vital to find a balance between transparency and the protection of the fundamental rights of convicted persons.
