Abstract

Objective. The present investigation was carried out with the purpose of characterizing the wind potential in the USP -Nuevo Chimbote medical campus through a wind statistical treatment.

Materials and methods. The research is of a quantitative -longitudinal type, with a descriptive research design; where the population was made up of statistics of wind speeds and direction during a year, and the sample was the same population.

Results. From the data were collected through a meteorological station, we applied the Weibull distribution methodology, where the value of k is 1.3554 (the slope of the function) and the value of b is 2.1662 (the coefficient of the function), from these figures the value c is determined to be 4.944 of the equation. Concluding that the averagespeed that predominates is 5 m/s, although this value is variable according to the hours of the day and the month of the year. In addition with respect to the direction of the wind it is predominantly between south and south-southwest.

Conclusion. After evaluating the wind potential it was determined that for an average speed of 5 m / s it is possible to achieve 400 W/m2of energy which tends to increase with the increase in speed, however speeds above this value is irregular.
