This article aimed to establish the existing relationship between supply chain management and competitiveness of SMEs in the footwear industry of Trujillo province in the year 2016, in order to propose a suitable model of supply chain management for this industry. A correlational study was carried out and it was applied to a sample consisting of 50 footwear SMEs from which only 44 agreed to provide information. They were also applied a survey about supply chain management and another one about competitiveness. The results were that 72.73% of SMEs of the footwear industry of Trujillo province have a regular supply chain management. Likewise, 81.82% of the surveyed SMEs have a low competitiveness level, which allowed us to establish a moderate correlation between the variables of supply chain management and competitiveness level. Therefore, it is proposed that in order to improve the information now, the use of a database should be chosen as a management and support tool for decision-making.
