Pollerías (grilled chicken restaurants) in the city of Trujillo have become specific sources of air pollution due to the emissions they generate; and since there are no regulations regarding this activity, there is no evidence of mitigation measures for the problem. In view of this, the present investigation had the purpose of reducing the concentration of CO of the emissions generated by pollerias in the Historical Center of Trujillo.by using an activated carbon monolith filter made from banana peel. It had a bifactorial design, in which two independent variables applied in the elaboration of the carbon monoliths were manipulated: Percentage concentration of phosphoric acid (40%, 60% and 80%) and compaction pressure (300 psi and 600 psi). The applied statistical analyses were the Wilk-Shapiro test, ANOVA and the Post Hoc Tukey test. The method established in the USEPA International Standard e-CFR Title 40, part 60, Appendix-1: Methods 1 and the Testo 340-S gas analyzer equipment was used in the measurement of CO concentrations in the chimney. Finally, it was concluded that the carbon monolith filter, activated at 60% phosphoric acid and compressed at 600 psi, is the one that obtained a better CO reduction (28.93%) from an initial concentration of 877.50 ppm to 623.67 ppm CO.
