Abstract

This study was performed in order to diagnose the accessibility in public spaces for people with disabilities in the city of Chimbote. The study was conducted in the period from April to August 2014. The sample consisted of the most outstanding public spaces of the study area (Chimbote), these are the squares, parks and pathways that were analyzed together with the fronts; also a representative group of people with motor and sensory disabilities, taking into account the skills and perceptions that implicates each disability in the development in public spaces. The interview technique was applied, surveys and observation forms, with drawings and photographic record. It was determined that: the public spaces of Chimbote are inaccessible on a 64.33%, the accessibility problems are caused by social barriers and anomie of the population and local management; the consequences are shown on affectations to the safety, guidance, greater effort, use and comfort of persons with disabilities, notably where have visual impairment; the management of accessibility rules is defragmented, messy, little promoted with very evident trend of anomie.
