Abstract

To determinate the contribution of flaxseed “Linum usitatissimum L.” in decreasing cholesterol levels in the staff of the Clinic Santa Ana SAC, Trujillo. It was developed a pre experimental designed study. The sample consisted of 30 workers between men and women; divided into A1, A2, A3 who received doses of 30, 45, and 60 g of flaxseed respectively and group B (control) which was not administered flaxseed. Cholesterol levels were evaluated using the enzymaticcolorimetric method and spectrophotometric, performed in the laboratory of Clinical Santa Ana ; before and after the supply of linseed was observed that before the supply of flaxseed poder workers 83,3% in the control group (B) presents risk level. In the A1 group, 62,5% have a high cholesterol level, as well as 100% of workers in the group A2, while in the A3 group, 50% presented high level and 50% are at risk, to analyze the final cholesterol level, it was observed that workers in the control group than in the pretest showed a predominance of risk level in the post test showed high level in 66,7% of workers. In the experimental groups, it was observed that, in the pretest, most cholesterol levels presented high level, while in the post test cholesterol levels they dropped from high risk level in 86,5% of workers in the A1 group, 75% of workers in the group A2 and 75% of workers in the A3 group. By analyzing the variation of average cholesterol levels obtained before and after consumption of flaxseed, a highly significant (p<0,01) it was observed in mean cholesterol level in the groups that received a dose of flaxseed, with a lower average in the final test from baseline test. It is concluded that flaxseed contributes significantly in reducing cholesterol levels in the staff of the Clinic Santa Ana. SAC Trujillo.
