Abstract

A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted at Hospital II EsSalud-Chocope in 2016 in order to
identify the clinical-epidemiological profile of obesity in schoolchildren. Childhood obesity is a medical problem that affects children and adolescents when weight for age is above P85. In this study it was found that obesity was significantly higher in boys than in girls (31 vs. 28%). 100% of the population had a severe
degree of obesity (P>97). 50% of schoolchildren were associated with bronchial asthma and 33% with dyslipidemias. It was concluded that the typical profile of the obese school patient is being a male between 8 and 10 years old, and that having a family member with obesity as antecedent is an unmodifiable risk factor, in addition to having a family member with a history of high blood pressure.
