Abstract

Fieldwork consisting in monthly bird surveys —from May to August 2009 —, was conducted in all the area of theNational University of Trujillo main campus. As a result, a list of 29 species, registered in at least 3 different occasions, was obtained. The majority of those birds belong to the order Passeriformes and among the families those with the greatest number of species are Emberizidae, Columbidae and Mimidae. The most abundant species are Zenaidameloda, Columbinacruziana y Mimuslongicaudatus, whereas the least abundant ones are Icterus graceannae, Athenecunicularia y Falco sparverius.The most widely distributed species is C. cruziana. On the contrary, the least widely distributed species are Icterus graceannae, y Athenecunicularia. Were identified 6 feeding guilds the most abundant insectivores (11 species) and granivorous (10 species).Due to its great diversity of birds (H`=2.75)UNT main campus can be regarded as one of the best bird watching urban sites within Trujillo city.
