Epidemiological profile of nosocomial infections in a neonatal care unit, Trujillo, 2008 - 2012

To identify the epidemiological profile of nosocomial infections in the neonatal care unit of Trujillo Regional Hospital, a retrospective and descriptive study was carried. We reviewed 255 medical records of infants with nosocomial infections treated at this hospital from January 2008 to December 2012. The epidemiological characters were the male sex, the infection site was sepsis, the procedure was the peripheral catheterization, the most frequently isolated bacteria was Staphylococcus epidermidis, the newborns of 28 - 32 weeks of gestational age and 1001 - 1500 grams of birth weight were the most common infected. The mortality was 33% of the cases.
