Abstract

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is one of the most prevalent emotional disorders, characterized by excessive and persistent worry lasting six months or more, according to DSM-5 criteria. Its etiology is multifactorial, linked to cognitive-affective factors oriented toward the anticipation of danger. The objective of the study was to assess the emotional and physical evolution of a patient with generalized anxiety disorder through an intervention based on mindfulness and dietary adjustments to promote overall well-being. The patient, a 62-year-old female, presented with anxiety symptoms characterized by frequent headaches, nervousness, constant distress, and self-harming behaviors. She reported exacerbation of symptoms in situations perceived as uncontrollable, including family conflicts, overprotection, and exposure to events related to crime. Physically, she exhibited hyperphagia, excessive sweating, and catastrophic thinking patterns. For clinical evaluation, standardized and reliable instruments were used, such as the GAD-7 Scale, the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Results indicated the presence of persistent moderate anxiety, unhealthy eating patterns, no signs of cognitive impairment, and no depressive symptoms. The patient was treated using a gerontological approach within a person-centered care model, taking into account her individual needs and psychosocial context. An intervention based on mindfulness and dietary adjustments was implemented to strengthen her overall well-being.
