Abstract

The objective of this study was to calculate the reliability of plantar thermographic measurements (PTM) of FLIR C2 camera according to repeatability and concordance in the diagnosis of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in primary healthcare. A methodology was performed in 20 diabetic patients which were attended into an ambulatory medical unit were evaluated to the diagnosis of DPN using infrared thermography by FLIR C2 and FLIR E60 camera. PTM was localized in hallux, the base of the 1st metatarsal, the base of the 3rd metatarsal, the base of the 5th metatarsal and heel. Five PTM of each foot was performed according to the American Academy of thermology in two different days using FLIR C2 camera to calculate repeatability. Five PTM of each foot were compared by FLIR C2 respect to FLIR E60 camera to calculate concordance. The results in 20 diabetic patients were 58,34 ± 8,3 years old and predominant gender was male in 68%. Analysis of repeatability has resulted in an Inter Class Concordance (ICC) in 0,88 for FLIR C2 and concordance has resulted in an ICC in 0,85 for FLIR C2 respect to FLIR E60. The conclusion was the use of the FLIR C2 camera was reliable due to excellent repeatability and concordance of PTM in diabetic patients in primary healthcare.
