Abstract

The main objective of this research was to evaluate the levels of sound environmental pollution (noise) both outside and inside Cesar Vallejo University in Trujillo so as to establish the baseline of pollution levels and actions to be carried out in order to get its mitigation and reduction. Measurements of equivalent continuous sound pressure levels were made (leq A) in twelve different points during a typical working day and month at the University both outside, along Victor Larco Avenue and Fatima Avenue, and inside the academic and administrative areas. In all of the measurement points, the quality sound environmental standards were exceeded. An average of 72.04 dB (LAeq) outside and 66.17 dB inside the University was observed. The national and local regulation in force establishes the above-mentioned quality sound environmental standards for the study area, which should be 50 dB (DS 085-2003- PCM, OM 008-2007-MPT). Therefore, the quality standards were surpassed in 44% and 32% both outside and inside the University respectively. As a result, immediate intervention actions should be carried out to control, condition, and reduce the sound source pollution for the well-being of the university population of Cesar Vallejo University in Trujillo.
