The learning styles and academic performance of medical interns Teaching Regional Hospital of Trujillo, Perú

Objective: To evaluate the learning style according to the Pérez Jiménez neurolinguistic model and determine the relationship with the academic performance of the medical interns of the Teaching Regional Hospital of Trujillo in Perú. Material and Methods: A descriptive, correlational and cross – sectional study was carried out. The non –parametric Chi Square criteria independence test was applied with a significance level of 5 %. Results: It was found that 50 % of medical interns use the visual method, while 32,1 % the auditory method and 17,9 % the kinesthetic method. 67,9 % of the medical interns had good academic performance, while 32,1 % academic performance was regular. The p value was 0,89, with no significant relationship between learning style and academic performance. Conclusion: Medical interns have good academic performance using any of the three learning styles, there is no relationship between learning style and academic performance.
