Abstract

This correlational research, whose objective was to explain the relationship between ambivalent sexism and violence in dating relationships among adolescents in the district of Florencia de Mora, had a sample of 260 students from 2 educational institutions of 3°, 4° and 5° grade of the secondary level. The Ambivalent Sexism Inventory (Glick and Fiske, 1996) and The Violence in Dating Relationships Inventory (Wolfe and Wekerle, 1999) were applied. It was determined that there is a relationship between ambivalent sexism and violence in dating relationships; also considering the factors of ambivalent sexism and the violence suffered, a direct correlation was obtained between hostile sexism with verbal verbal violence and an inverse correlation with the threats and a direct correlation between benevolent sexism and the threats and an inverse correlation with emotional verbal violence. Additionally, analyzing the factors of ambivalent sexism and violence committed, it can be noted that Hostile Sexism has a direct correlation with physical violence (= .44) and an inverse correlation with threats and Benevolent Sexism presents a direct correlation with the Threats (= .40) and an inverse correlation with the physical violence Finally, there was a low level of hostile sexism (56%) and a medium level (57%) of benevolent sexism. relational predominates (73%) and in the committed one, relational predominates (78%).
