Abstract

The purpose of the present investigation has been to carry out the strategic analysis of a private management educational institution of the city of Trujillo (Peru), as a step prior to the formulation of its strategic plan. The study carried out has followed a qualitative-quantitative approach, with non-experimental design, descriptive and cross-sectional scope. The techniques and data collection instruments used have been diverse (surveys, interviews and documentary analysis) and have responded to the nature of the variables investigated. The strategic analysis has followed the guidelines established by the SWOT methodology (strengths, opportunities, weaknesses and threats), seeking to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the organization under the capabilities approach proposed by Serna Gómez and the opportunities and threats of the environment based on the model of the 5 Porter forces (microenvironment) and the PESTAmodel (macroenvironment). The results have demonstrated the practical utility of the SWOT methodology as an effective tool for the strategic analysis of organizations and have supported the theoretical postulates exposed by the specialized literature in the field of strategic planning.
