With Los Heraldos Negros (1919) begins his first literary archeology, that gathered, from previous writings a wide knowledge of the symbolic structures of the literary trends that flooded the academic forums in the 20th century. In addition, in 1919 Vallejo draws a new line in his complex poetic universe thanks to new “travel companions” (Orego. Garrildo. Imaña. Haya de la Torre…) and from different writings and authors like Poe, Tennyson, Schiller…, that allowed him to know better the reality of his time; a time where Vallejo is always dialectical, that is, contradictory, of exaltation, memories and expectings, but always human, so human that he is able to disrupt the structures of old modernism in a scale of voices and sounds (close to poets as Herrera y Reissig or José Asunción Silva), that over the years, will end up breaking the most traditional canons and dethrone fake gods from the Olympus.
