The objective of this study was to determine the effect of nursing care management upon the quality of care in patients with mechanical ventilation in critical areas such as Emergency, ICU, adult NICU, and Neonatology ICU at Hospital Víctor Lazarte Echegaray of the EsSalud Health Care Network, Trujillo, La Libertad. The type of research was deductive, the design was descriptive correlational, because information was collected regarding how the nurse manages care in one of the many procedures she performs, such as mechanical ventilation, which being an invasive and risky technique requires knowledge, aptitude, attitude, values and good judgment in her profession to achieve timely and adequate care, i.e. quality. The population included professional nursing staff from each service corresponding to critical areas in a total of 80 female nurses, including 100 % as a sample. Two instruments were used for data collection. A questionnaire measuring the effect of nurse management on mechanically ventilated patients with a total of 30 items and a list of comparisons concerning the quality of nursing care with a total of 25 items. For reliability, a pilot test was applied to ten female nurses from Hospital Belén, in the emergency services and ICU, since they have similar characteristics to our research, obtaining a Cronbach alpha coefficient of 0.841 and 0.811 respectively. In addition, it was found that from the total of 80 nurses, 25 % provide efficient care management and 75 % is deficient. In the quality of care in mechanical ventilation variable, this was good in 55% and bad in 45% among nurses. Likewise, by relating nursing care management to care quality in mechanically ventilated patients, it was found that when care management is efficient (20 female nurses), care quality is good at 80.0% (16 female nurses). On the other hand, when care management is deficient (60 female nurses), care quality is 55% poor (33 female nurses). Thus, when the Chi-square test was applied, a significant statistical relationship was found between both variables (p < 0.05). The study concluded that there is a direct relationship between nursing care management and care quality in patients with mechanical ventilation in the critical areas of Hospital Victor Lazarte Echegaray. Likewise, it was found that in the management of care there is still a 75% deficiency due to the fact that the emergency service, within the critical areas, lacks an adequate organization or management and has a greater human capital. The quality of nursing care in critical areas was of good level (55% of female nurses).
