Role of chemokines and its receptors in inflammation

Abstract

Chemokines are small structurally diverse heparin-binding proteins, that can be secreted by activated endothelial cells and by many other cell types in response to tissue distress, then had been originally studied because of their rolein inflammation, and their receptors are now knownto play a crucial part in directing the movement of mononuclearcells throughout the body, engendering the adaptive immune response and contributing to the pathogenesis of a variety of diseases. In this bibliographic review, we highlight the roles of these chemoattractants in some selected clinical disorders.
