In this paper, attention is focused on César Vallejo’s narrative production containing the elements and aspects that subsequently appeared as main characteristics of magical realism, which is typical of the literary process of several Latin American countries. This phenomenon is particularly evident in the stories Fabla salvaje (Wild Language), “Beyond life and death” and “The child of the reed”. In the novel and in the cited stories the constant and frequent occurrence of extraordinary events and, amazing, magical and fabulous phenomena can be seen, in principle, without logical and coherent explanation, which go beyond the normal development or naturalness of ordinary or daily reality. For now, we focus our study on the short novel Fabla salvaje.
